err .. wasnt the whole idea of mutual funds was to guide the ‘know-nothing’ investor .. i mean if u knew the ways of the bears and bulls, wouldnt u tackle them directly! the extra price would have to be the guiding fees ..!

Most of the things you said seem to be right. But one aspect you did not consider is the tax angle.<BR/>I am not aware of tax rebates worldwide.But in India if you invest in ELSS you dont have to pay taxes for the amount you had invested till some ceiling.
